U-505

On June 4, 1944, the US Navy hunted and captured the German submarine, U-505. Decades of exposure to the extremes of Chicago weather almost destroyed it. 

With two herculean efforts, Chicago's Museum of Science and Industry raised $35 million to restore the U-505, then found the expertise to construct and lower a vessel the length of a city block to it's new, subterranean home.

So how do you you attract visitors to the reopening of a legacy exhibit that promises something new and exciting? You bring the U-505 exhibit to the people.

The U-505 campaign achieved record attendance for the museum with the U-505 on-board tour tickets selling out for the first four months of the exhibit's reopening.
